Dear $[UD:FIRST_NAME||]$,

July Newsletter

We can blame the summer for the delay in our July Newsletter, but the fact is that we have been super busy – more motivated than ever by July’s events. Let’s call out two of them.

  • As always, we celebrate the Fourth of July – Independence Day. However, through our ongoing work with community-based organizations, municipalities, trade associations, universities, state agencies, and partner firms, we have come to understand that interdependence and cooperation are every bit as important as individual freedom. That was also the case in the country’s founding. We would not have shed our oppressors otherwise. “Interdependence Day” has a nice ring to it.
  • July 4th was also the day that the “big beautiful” bill was signed into law. According to an analysis by Energy Innovation, a non-partisan energy and climate think tank, electricity prices will surge throughout the next decade due to energy policy changes in the bill. This is because it significantly curtails access to renewable resources while throwing most of the federal eggs into the fossil fuel basket. As with many aspects of the bill, the most adversely impacted will be low-middle income, rural areas, and the environment – a different form of shackles. Community interdependence has never been more imperative.

Read on for more of what Beacon Climate has been up to in support of community interdependence.

A Havenly Visit

As Beacon Climate strives to expand its “ecosystem” in Connecticut, it has been conducting a series of meetings and visits with various stakeholders in the State’s climate and energy network. This includes an inspiring visit to New Haven–based climate tech incubator ClimateHaven and long-established maker space MakerHaven. Special thanks to ClimateHaven’s president Ryan Dings and operations manager Cecil Gilliard for making the arrangements and giving a wonderful tour.

Spotlight

Vanessa Fox

As a rule, Beacon Climate doesn’t spotlight one of our own – but we are making an exception in this case. Vanessa has been the heart of Beacon Climate Innovations. She has brought a genuine sense of kindness and caring that should be integral to every business, but far too many lack today. In addition, with over two decades of experience in marketing, sales, climate, and leadership, Vanessa brings a mission-driven mindset and entrepreneurial energy to every project she touches. An alumna of Clark University, where she earned both her Bachelor's and MBA, Vanessa has served in leadership roles at Hewlett Packard, iXL, AMR Research and MIT Enterprise Forum. She also founded Partners in Productivity and Solvations. Consistently working in fields well ahead of their time like CRM, IoT and Social Innovations.

Her recent work with Beacon Climate includes leading community engagement with respect to the Riverside and LOFT Clean Energy Community Resilience Hubs in Taunton and supporting the growth and development of local MWBE and Critical Underserved Businesses seeking experience in climate-related fields. Vanessa has been instrumental in securing our MassCEC grants and implementing our plans against them. With her storied career, Vanessa has decided to scale back. True to form, she has been working diligently with Beacon Climate to fill her figuratively big shoes. Vanessa is committed to the planet, social justice and the many communities her kindness and dedication she touches. We expect to stay in close touch with Vanessa – to keep her apprised of the product of her work and welcome her guidance when she offers it. We will make sure that the exceptional integrity and thoughtfulness that she brought to Beacon Climate stays woven into the fabric of the company. Thanks Vanessa!

REMEMBRANCE

The Climate and Energy Transition Community lost one of its most revered trailblazers and enduring leaders this past month: Dave Dayton. Dave founded the Hospital Efficiency Corporation (HEC), Energia Global International and Clean Energy Solutions Inc (CESI). He also authored a handful of books, one dedicated to hope and Microgrids. At Beacon Climate we’ve been honored to start working with Dave and his team at CESI on the St Peter/San Pedros Church CCRH and Network Geothermal project. We look forward to continuing to work with the CESI team to ensure that his legacy lives on.
